Optional Configuration Commands
The following commands allow the user to customize the terrain interface on the DACS but are
not required.
terrain:pdus_packet = x
This command specifies the number of PDUs to be sent per UDP packet. The valid range of
values is from 1 to 16. This effectively sets the maximum number of path loss information
requests per packet. If more PDUs are ready in a frame than the number set, PDUs will be dis-
tributed in subsequent packets. If the number of PDUs ready in a frame is less than the value
set, then all PDUs will be sent.
terrain:rate_divider = xx
This commands sets the maximum rate at which packets are transmitted to the Terrain Server.
The rate of packet transmission is the master (also called system) model rate divided by xx. If
xx = 10, one packet is sent every 10 model frames. See the Model Builder Reference Manual
section on the Model Timing window for an explanation of the master model rate.
terrain:pathloss = Off|LOS|OTH|All
This statement controls the conditions under which Model Builder will apply its own internal
loss calculation to the received power of a radio. For “Line-Of-Sight” radios, Model Builder
computes free-space loss, fresnel diffraction effects, and occulting by the smooth ellipsoidal
(WGS-84) earth for in-tune transmitter/receiver pairs. This flag controls whether an internally-
computed loss is applied to a given type of radio.
For example, if this is set to “Off”, Model Builder does not apply any internally-computed
losses to any radios. If this flag is set to “LOS”, then internally computed losses are applied to
“Line-Of-Sight” radios only. If this flag is set to “OTH”, then internally computed losses are
applied to “Over-The-Horizon” radios only. If this flag is set to “All”, then internally com-
puted losses are applied to both “Line-Of-Sight” and “Over-The-Horizon” radios.
If using the Terrain Server and the HF Server, the recommended setting for this parameter is
“OTH” since the HF Server computes values for transmission loss using its own algorithm
which includes free-space loss. If using the Terrain Server by itself, this parameter should
match the “terrain:request” parameter described above.
See the Model Builder Reference Manual (DOC-01-MB-RM-4) Revision A (July 2004) for com-
plete DACS configuration commands.
Model Builder Radio Configuration
The only requirement for the radio models is that they must be set to a frequency greater than 33
MHz.
